Well I can agree with that. That BillG is a smart fella < s >!

I have a Sharp Zaurus (old) that has pen input that I have used for things like you describe, and it was fine.

I have, and still use, a CrossPad at meetings. I write any notes on a regular pad mounted on a 'receiver' device, using a special pen that transmits movements to the receiver device.
When the meeting is done I go back to my desk, plug the thing in, and save the notes I wrote using IBM "Ink Manager" software that came with the product.
It's OK, and even does a decent job of converting my handwriting to text (leaving diagrams nicely alone) but it has essentially no formatting capability and it treats each line written on the pad as a new line. So I just store/use the "ink" image when I need it.

The tablet PC sound like a MUCH better substitute for this kind of use.

cheers

>Bill Gates himself said in the preview of it that it is best suited for quick emails and letters but not data entry. It is more intended for taking to meetings, etc.

>>Here's how I surmise the procedure from what I read:
>>
>>1) Start a VFP app. on my tablet PC. It presents an entry screen (my VFP app) with some text boxes.
>>
>>2) "pen" on the first text box where I want to enter data to put the cursor there.
>>
>>3) "pen" the gizmo that says I want to use handwriting to enter the data.
>>
>>4) Wait for some entry area to be presented, then 'pen' my data on to it.
>>
>>5) "pen" the gizmo that says that I have finished penning my entry. Wait for the thing to 'convert' my penned stuff and then display the original screen, now showing my handritten info converted to real text in the entry box I originally selected.
>>
>>6) Assuming the conversion to have been correct, REPEAT steps 2 - 5 for each remaining textbox that I want to handwrite into.
>>
>>That sounds like it would be 'fun' for all of 3 entries, then it would be a real hassle.
>>
>>Do you know how it really works? If so, tell us.
>>
>>
>>>Why would you see that? I recently got an iPaq and use the handwriting recognition for all my entry. It works just fine.
>>>

>>>>Well if that's how it turns out to work I can only see drudgery in such a procedure.
