I'd check to make certain that the print cable is made correctly (some cheap print cables do not connect some of the secondary signal lines which are not used by all printers) and I'd make sure that the printer port is set in the BIOS to perform as an EPP printer rather than an ECP printer. I'd also check the spool settings for the printer to make certain that the spooler is enabled.
