The downloaded files that I have are in EXE format. I just tried it again in my machine just to make sure, and dragging the mouse cursor over the text on any page does not work. I copied the executable to the other machine (hubbed with this one), also with the XP OS, and it does not work either.

You say that there is no difference between the two copies. Would you please verify that the webpage link to the magazines actually run the executable file that is the magazine.
