1..we do delete the tags and recreate them when they do a reindex, generally every 2-3 weeks.

2..unfortunately they don't do a reindex that frequently. It appears that the reindex will fix the problem of a SEEK finding/not finding the records, but doesn't do anything to restore the missing record. My gut feeling is that somehow a record's data is turned into 'nuls'(because you can see records w/nul data when an index is not set), but the record's primary key in the index is not affected (because when you browse, set the index and do a SEEK it puts the record pointer on the record w/good data right on top of a record w/nul data).
