Hi!

See responses below...

>Well, when i first sent this to MS it was of course with all the description, details, and ways to reproduce it.
>Now that you checked and i also refresh my memory, i am sure 99 % the problem is with the Hebrew versions of Windows.

Well, this is closer now, I thought so...

>The problem as it is now is a PITA when designing, but livable. Before VFP6 SP4, this was really annoying. There are some threads here where i gave to Israeli or Arabic programmers workarounds to this: in those versions, the printed text was randomly disapearing also at runtime.

Seems fixed in VFP8 now. There was another thread about this recently related to disappearing of right-aligned labels with right-to-left text.

>Also, the other thing i noticed is that when typing label contents in the report designer, it goes from Right to Left, even if i'm typing english. I don't mind since afterwards i align it correctly, but this meens that probably the whole Report Designer is working in some kind of Hebrew mode, and that could be the cause. Entering some script issues in the fonts and in the defaults of the Report designer could fix this i think.

Well, did you tried to change the codepage for your report? You can see current codepage for file in the project manager - project info dialog. Run VFP in another codepage mode (you can set it in Config.FPW). Create report or add existing report (it will be added to project with another codepage). Then return back to normal.

I think VFP uses current codepage to determine right-to-left text typing, font charset etc. Just try this and let me know if it helps.

>As for repoducing the problem in order to report the bug, since you don't have any Hebrew version of Windows with you i guess, i could look into some recording utility so i can create an AVI file of it...

No need in this. Just wait for some time - I'll try to find one (I know at least 2 MSDN packages around that I can use to install Hebrew version of Windows).

>By the way, when you change the background color of a label, do you see it at design time?
>

Yes, I see it. Did it disappear for you???

>>Posting here is not an official bug-report. MS VFP team members *sometimes* look here and answer to bug-reports and enter them into their database, but this is not a stable and usual practice.
>>
>>As about the defect:
>>
>>Please, understand that problem is not only in bug-report sending, but also in reproducing it at the MS side.
>>
>>Whatever I did, I could not find any font that causes disapearing like you described. It is probably the same at the MS side - they could not reproduce it, but they're just give you no response when you report defects through their usual bug-reports facility.
>>
>>THAT is why I asked you to be more accurate and describe better what I should do to reproduce the problem.
>>
>>That is why I would like to help you - using this thread we can just determine HOW it could be reproduced on my computer. If I would be able to reproduce it on my computer and somebody's else computer, then MS could with 99% guarantee. Just your description for this is not enough, as you see. The problem might relate to anything - version of Windows, font file, codepage for report in your project manager etc.
>>
>>If you will be so kind and patient, I can help you to determine what causes that and how to represent this to MS, so they will reproduce the problem at theur side and accept your bug-report.
>>
>>Thanks!
>>
>>>Well, i did report this as well as many other Report Designer bugs ( for instance, if you set the backcolor to anything but white, you don't see it at design time, but you do at runtime. I have this bug since VFP3 until VFP8 included ). At the time, i sent the bug report to MS Israel, and since i am very polite, i don't write you here what i think they did with it ( and what i think of them in general ).
>>>I thought that posting here was the official bug report for the Fox team at MS, should i post it also somewhere else?
>>>
>>>>Did you tried to report this to MS? If you have difficulties with his, I can help you. However, I require font files from you and exact steps to do to reproduce the problem. If I'll manage to reproduce it, it is worth to send to MS as a bug-report.
>>>
>>>Well, i have difficulties with this, but as i told you, this works fine at runtime, so the workaround is for me to design the whole thing with a 'visible' font, then change in the end to whatever i need. You can reproduce this easily: just open the report designer, insert a label, write whatever you want in it, click outside of the label, then select it. Then, go to the format menu and change the fonts, you'll see it disapearing for plenty of fonts.
>>>By the way, and i think this would be a good wish, i think they should change the way we change the fonts in the report designer ( i.e not but format menu ), but rather like for FireWorks, or even Word ( i.e you see what you wrote in the specified fonts while you browse, or for Word, you see how the font looks )
>>>
>>>Thanks for your help

>>>>>Hi
>>>>>This happened to me in every version of VFP, and i just checked also in VFP8. When adding a label in my report designer window, i have like a zillion fonts that make it disapear ( in design mode ). Whenever i want to use a fancy font, i have to design everything in Arial or Courier, then when finished the report completely, change the labels to the desired font. It disapears, but prints ok at runtime.
>>>>>Also, when choosing the fonts, the Script clause is disabled. This is really a PITA for fonts that have Hebrew and Western scripts. For instance, i cannot use Arial for a Spanish app, since the specific spanish letters will print Hebrew instead. I have to choose a "completely Western" font for that.

The professional level of programmer could be determined by level of stupidity of his/her bugs

It is not appropriate to say that question is "foolish". There could be only foolish answers. Everybody passed period of time when knows nothing about something.
