In addtion to the other ideas, if you have VFP7 it is easy to make a Container-based button respond nicely, like Hot Tracking, and set color(s) to whatever you want. Use the events :

MouseEnter,MouseLeave,MouseDown,Mouseup

...to time the actions, creating a border and changing SpecialEffect property.
