Whoops! Wrong skyscraper. Side note to the Hancock building. There's a building directly north of it. It used to be the Pamolive Building and later was the Playboy Building. It has an airplane beacon on the top, which rotates in a circle. The building when it was built was a pretty good size, plus the beacon is on top of a tall tower.
When the Hancock was finished it was so much taller that, for awhile at least, they had to place a shield on the south side of the tower so that it wouldn't shine into the rooms in the middle of the Hancock Building. I don't know if the beacon is still operating.
