Hi Elyse,
The way I solved this problem was to use a Character field in my table, to store the file name and location, rather than a General field.
In Tools/Component Gallery/My Database Classes there is a class called _image. Drag and drop this onto your form and set its Picture property to the name of the file in the current record.
