Even though we agree it is not the best way to handle this, opening and closing the table everytime may not be the major culprit.

Did you use coverage profiler to see how much time is taken opening and closing the table compared to the rest of the code? 'Insert' Command should not be the problem as I think it's faster than 'Append blank and replace' commands.
