I have an SPC application that reads data from the serial port using the mscomm activeX control. My application has been working nicely for a couple years now.

It's time to upgrade that workstation, So I put together a new machine with XP as the OS.

Now sometimes when my applicaition opens the comm port, no data is recieved. I can close and open, then it will start receiving. It seems to be a random bug, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesnt. I changed all the available settings on the comm port in the control panel. They had no affect.

It is able to open the port, otherwise i would have received an error. It's just not receiving on a random basis.

i have double checked my connections, they all seem fine.

I may have to go back to the old PC :( thats not gonna make the boss happy.
