One of the solutions is to use word automation, like:

oWord = CREATEOBJECT("Word.Application")
oWord.visible=.t.
* open document readonly in terms of MSWord, meaning you can edit but can save as a new document only.
oWord.documents.open("c:\hi.doc",.f.,.T.)
......
