I used to work in the lumber industry, so I know quite a bit about this. (No I wasn't a lumber jack, but I'm still ok *g*)...

My guess is the push to reduce the tariffs is really coming from the companies (such as Boise Cascade) that get most of their lumber from Canada as opposed to those that get most of their lumber from the US (such as Plum Creek, which is the company I worked for).

As for Canada joining the US, there was a movement two or three years ago in one of the provinces to suceed (sp) from Canada and become part of the US. If I remember correctly it was either Manitoba or Saskatchewan.
