It can't. You can make a file server out of Linux with Sammba and put DBFs on it, but that is about it.

Consider downloading and trying "SuSE Linux for i386 Live-Eval". This is a version that runs completely off of a CD. It writes a few swap files to your hard drive. I've tried it out on several PCs. It was as good as WinXP for recognizing the components in my computer. I tried it on several pcs at work, laptops... all with excellent results.

It is called "Live Eval" but it is completely usable.
