>>>In all major conflicts this century, the US had a significant advantage in that its civilian population and industry was not being hammered while it geared for war.<<

If Europeans appeared to "need their bacon saved" by the US, perhaps it was because if civilians are in the firing line and productive capacity is overrun by a mechanised enemy, organised resistance is both difficult to mount and self-defeating.

John;

There are lots of prepositional phrases that we can and do use to describe possible changes to any event past or present. If this occurred then the result would be that. In a manner of speaking World War II for the United States was almost a “push button” war, which we have talked about for almost 40 years. The federal administration pushed a button and an event occurred from an armchair somewhere in Washington D.C.

Our capacity to produce and natural resources combined with no interference from foreign nations led us to become the most productive nation in the world. When chaos rained throughout much of the world our armchair decision makers were not impeded by the threat of invasion or devastation of our cities and people in wholesale lots.

After the war our nation was greatly intact while the rest of the world that participated in the war was devastated for the most part. The United States rebuilt West Germany and Japan, while Russia took charge of many nations. The United States and Russia imposed their will upon other nations, with each having a different approach, impact and end result.

There are so many complex agreements and decisions our nation has made with the desire to remain the United States. Others may not agree with these decisions, as is the case with many of our citizens. In the end it is a matter of survival and if you are among the lucky you see little wrong with what has occurred.

Too often decisions makers from any government are controlled by a person who has too much control and uses power to express his/her desires. This is the most dangerous position any people can be subjected to. A true balance of power is needed but even our nation lacks such a condition.

My least favorite president is LBJ. His decisions were responsible for killing 58,000 American’s. I also like to add to the red necks and other thoughtless individuals out there that over 3 million Vietnamese were killed by Americans. We glorify the death of the Americans and forget the wrath they created.

Now we are in a new age with a new leader and a set of circumstances we have never enjoyed previously. Our nation has been attacked! Disgruntled persons – some born and raised in the United States, who also served our country in the military, as well as people from other nations want to destroy us.

Stay tuned to the 6 PM news for the latest whatever. In the mean time continue to run up personal debt and work long hours so you can buy one of each item that is out there for sale. Do not think of anything but how you are going to pay your bills. Amuse yourself with whatever takes the place of the Roman Coliseum in your life.

As long as there is more than one person in the world it will remain less than a perfect place.

Tom
