Hi Miles,
Just to be a constrarian here...
I don't use RECNO(), but the real answer is, it depends. For most tables there is no great reason to PACK--ever. It's just one those things people feel good about doing. The apps I've done are almost never PACKed. If the developer says she uses the recno, you know you can't pack. It's really not a very big deal either way. I would be in no great hurry to get rid of RECNO(), just so you can pack. Is the data uncomfortable with deleted records lying in it's midst?

>New programmer says we should pack the data and rebuild indexes. Original developer said never pack the tables because she needs the recno(). I think new programmer needs to find how recno() is used and get rid of it.
