I found the above link.

I'm guessing but I think RPM has failed as the general installer. But I'm not to sure what will take it's place. Again, the lack of a standard is the root cause we don't have install programs. As far as getting C# to run with mono - you still have to setup where the lib's are hiding. So the lack of a standard location is causing the user to edit the ".bash_profile" or ".profile", etc. I not sure but I think LDLIBRARY was suppose to fix that problem. We are programers and we still have trouble. Just think what the endusers must be going through.
