This depends on what your back-end data is. I'm pretty sure that SQL Server can NOT handle this type of situation, but I don't know about other back-ends. My question to you is *why* do you want to do this? Is this column a PK (Primary Key)? If so, you shouldn't attach any meaning to it, which is what you would be doing by trying to make the values sequential.
