Thank you for the reply. I tried character (binary) and got the same result? There seems to be a problem with the characters 2,3 & 4, since I can save substr(lcEncrypted,5,10) fine. If I check each character with the ASC() function, I get:

2 0
3 0
4 0
5 43
6 191
