RAM is the main issue, make sure you've got enough. If you have enough RAM, typical business apps run a bit faster on W2K than on W9x on identical hardware. Assuming XP is slightly slower than W2K, app speed should be pretty close to what you are experiencing on 9x.

Anything with a Celeron/500 or better and 256+MB RAM should be fine to run XP Pro. Also make sure you have sufficient disk space if you're upgrading.
