Trying to be non-twittish...

>No, you're missing the point. The UT is not being critisized by anyone because it is a business. That would be stupid, and yes, funny as you say. The point is that the UT benefits financially by being designated the Official forum for Microsoft's uses, like the wishlist.

Let's assume that the UT benefits financially. I think it was you who cited things like higher advertising rates and increases in PUTM potentials and INdirect benefits along those lines. So what???
I contend that every site on the internet is specifically designed to attract the highest amount of traffic possible and that NONE (well, maybe a few oddballs) does that exclusively out of the goodness of their hearts. They all have ulterior motives, even if it is not money directly.

>And now Michel is "extremely sad" that noone wanted to promote the UT's services in the User Group Leader circle? Sorry, but I think its a valid opinion to hold. Especially because there are plenty of non-corporate ways of doing this, particularlly FoxCentral.NET, the Fox.Wikis, and the gajillion other resources that do not stand to gain financially (like Craig's personal website)

First, that there even is a "User Group Leaders Circle" is news to me. It might not be so if there was a user group in Toronto, but there isn't so I have no idea of whats all involved in that kind of thing.
Secondly, as I said above, my opinion is that everyone who maintains a site does so for more than just "personal experience" and they hope to gain SOMETHING in doing so.

You're right - you've not seen me in sites other than UT, West-Wind's wwThreads and StevenB's Wiki. I based my conclusion on the few instances when something slipped out here on UT about the subject of the Wish List's residence. And I remain of the opinion that the "argument" doesn't hold water and so (continue to) conclude that there is something else behind it.
