For any communication to occur you need 2 things:

- One computer to send a message
- Another computer running a compatible program, listening for a message

There are many ways to do this. Two are e-mail, and instant-messaging ("chat") applications.

There are examples here for automating e-mail communication using either Microsoft Outlook, or the MAPI transport in Outlook Express.

I can't recall seeing any examples here on automating communications via IM.
