Thank you Sergey, I'll post it in FAQ section, but I wanted first to see if there are any comments or ideas here in the forum.
About usage of Fox 2.x applications now a day: it’s still actual for me, because of following reasons:
1. I have a serious application for office automation and store management with a lot of users. Now I’m offering versions in FPW26 and VFP7. They are same in functionality. Some of clients with heavy-duty installations, with about 1,500,000 transactions per year, don’t want to move to VFP7, because of speed. Yes, BECAUSE OF SPEED. Exactly same procedures with same code and tables and indexes can be done two times slower in VFP7, in computers with a lot of resources. Even one of these clients works with both versions (FPW26 and VFP7), against same tables (in 2.6 format). He likes a lot of VFP7 version, because of many good thinks in it (for example automation), but critical calculations and table manipulations are doing in FPW26 version.
2. The thinks are worse with FPD26 – the “old” DOS version. I have another application (accounting system), which I’m offering in 3 versions: FPD26, FPW26 and VFP7. Now my last client, who works with DOS version, don’t like Windows version, again because of speed.
My conclusion about Fox versions speed is:FoxPro 2.6 DOS (the winner!)
FoxPro 2.6 Win
Visual FoxPro
My favourite version is Visual FoxPro, of course, because of many new possibilities. But…
