No, not really. did You try the _soundplayer class in the _multimedia.vcx foundation classes? I think this directly call the win-API.

Another idea would be to throw all You Sound stuff out and reinstall it.

I e.g. cannot play Videos on my NT4-Machine. I have no idea why, but most video players gpf as soon as I start a video (some work but most just go bang!). I tried everything, but on the other hand can easily live without that stuff.
