>It's pretty well known that food in America has too many carbohydrates added in as fillers. When it was determined years ago that 'fat' was unhealthy in American diets, food manufacturers were scrounging around looking for alternatives as 'fillers' in their products in order to provide a fat-free product. They pretty much settled on carbohydrates. No one looked at the different types of 'fat' back then and their effect on diet. Now many dieticians and nutritionists argue that premise (Dr Atkins for one) but sadly what's available as prepackaged foods has not changed yet and will not until changes are recommended from 'acceptable official sources.'

Tracy;
When the food industry became "concerned" about health issues they came out with so called "fat free foods". In place of fat in many instances sugar is used - in large amounts. This can create another series of problems. The human body will convert sugar to fat depending upon a number of Metabolic conditions which are normally met by the average person.
The Mediterranean diet is thought to be a good choice and is the one my wife and I follow. It has allowed me to loose over 50 pounds during the last year, along with exercise. I am an advocate of a balanced diet and no fads. The important thing is the source of each of the elements of your diet. Eat less, eat well and enjoy your food. Do not eat because you are trying to relieve a problem or because of stress.
