Hi Rex
When you right-click on the "invisible" GIF, what do you get:

Is "Show Picture" enabled? (this could mean it never finished loading)

Issuing "Save Picture As.." gets you the same file (size, etc) than the original one.. then it's a visualization problem, related to the browser ability to show that type of file
