Hi all,

Maybe someone can explain a problem with a client configuration with COM servers...
Scenario.

Win2K Server

Administrator member of User Group "A"
user Bill member of User Group "A"
user Mary member of User Group "A"

File server.
Drive
D:\Test is desired directory for COM server to do read/write, etc with... In the startup of the COM, it does a set default to D:\Test.

Drive D:\Test for security allows anyone from "Group A" full access to this and subdirectories within it.

COM Server setup.
Compiled and resides in D:\Test\COMServers

DCOMCnfg settings for this COM server
Custom Access and Launch permissions to allow anyone from "Group A"
Instantiation is based on SPECIFIC USER and assigned "Administrator" with respective password.

Client side intiates the COM server and fails... Access is denied.
When I recompile and just do SET PATH to D:\ it works, D:\Test it fails.

The current remedy was to EXPLICITLY add "Administrator" to the D:\Test directory with full rights and the COM server runs...

Any clues???

Whats ODD is that "Administrator" is the one who can assign / restrict access, and if the COM server is invoked AS "Administrator", why would it fail with Admin rights to begin with. Even with "Administrator" as a member of "Group A" and "Group A" has proper access rights to directory, still fails.

Thanks,

Don
