I still do not like this behaviour difference. Don't seem right to me.

It's definitely something that can bite you if you. I think that the reason may have something to do with the fact that a drop down list (style = 2) is really more like a scrolling list box that a drop down combo. This valid does not fire when you merely tab thru a scrolling list and do not change the selection.
