VFP7.9 sp1

I have a combolist that I populate with an array property. RowSourceType=5 and rowsoruce = this.iarowsource. I am using this as valid list for data input. The problem is when the value is null or empty, the drop down list goes to the bottom and then the user has to scroll back up the list. I tried setting the listinex to 1 and that worked except it updated the value that is bound to a column. What I want to do is force the selected position to the top without changing the value in the control.
