Well, frankly I don't think it's necessary. I got tripped up by this too, early on in my FoxPro days, once I found that it didn't work there are better alternatives to doing anything that you'd want to use deleted() or eof() or whatever() with an alias inside a multitable select. These sorts of constructs don't translate to SQL backends either, so it's better to avoid them in case you ever move to client/server.
