Technically, VFP was not sold to MS. Fox Holdings and MS "merged". VFP did not exist at that time, but was developed after the merger occured.
I do not want VFP to be sold off now and don't see that happening. IMO, Fox is better off at MS than at a small, no name company. How much have you head about dBase since Borland sold it? If you think Fox is a niche market now, it would be worse outside of MS.
