I'm not positive, but it might be a mapping problem with IIS. If you install IIS after installing VS.NET, the ASP.NET mappings get lost.

I had what sounds like a similar problem a few months ago, and Cathi Gero helped me out. Check out Thread ID 682522, Message ID 682543, and see if that helps.
