>So, I guess you too doubt the propagation of reindexing for matters of speed and correctness?!

Firstly, I can really only say for "my systems" this will probably not have noticable effects (unless the bloat is so bad that, as Jim points out, it involves significantly more disk activity to read the index in and is therefore slower).

Secondly, I am saying that although theoretically CDX bloat may slow index access down I think there are probably many other "real world" issues that slow down one's application even more i.e. users PC's with all their funnies :)

Thirdly, I must admit we supply re-indexing programs, with the added option to physically re-sort the database into primary key order, with all our apps. But I admit that we have not done actual speed tests to see if they make a significant difference. The largest table in our main app contains 4 million records (200Mg) and has +/-3000 records added every day (either added or re-cycle old records). I have run the reindex / sort routines now and then but have not suddenly noticed any speed difference. But, hey, it sounds good to the user :)

This app is installed with about 3000 end users and I can tell you our end-user's equipment, and what they all have installed and running on them, is going to be the main factor in speed issues iro our apps.

Merry Christmas.
