I have adopted your approach which works fine, but I was really wondering was there any way of using alias's that are created on a form.
(In the way, for instance, any ALIAS's in the dataenvironment can just be Used if the calling screen is a private data session and the called screen is a default data session ?

Yes. If the called form is a modal form with the default data session, it shares the calling form's data session. This includes any cursors that are opened by the parent form regardless of whether this is done in code or in the parent form's DE.
