If you want to track idle state of whole system, then you can use API function GetLastInputInfo. But it's available only on Window2000 and later. You can also use IdleUI.dll from "Q & A: C++" article in February 2000 issue of Microsoft Systems Journal. You can find it in MSDN, file Feb00CQ&A.exe.
