>HilmarZ gave two nice arguments in favor of macros. First, it occasionally even gives better performance (speed). Second, it occasionally even improves readabillity and code maintenance. Shouldn't the consequence be that you tell your (Turkish) audience the cons AND pros of macro substitution, besides telling them that it's often a matter of personal choice?! Shouldn't the consequence be that we all tell that to our audience?!

Peter:
The argument should not be about speed or limitations. The best argument for macro is the simple fact that there are things we can do with macros that cannot be done through any other feature. We can save hundreds of lines of through macros.

Macros and the "command" window are things we take for granite - yet are some of the most powerful development features we have in VFP. IF a macro makes sense, go ahead and use it! If an EVAL makes sense, use it. We have both!

Maybe we need a contest: Can you do this with an EVAL? <g>
