No, I wouldn't shell out for Sheridan Widgets. It seems very easy to prod me for being too cheap to shell out $50.00 for something that may, indeed, drastically reduce development time. I was out of work for 18 months before landing the current position, friends. True- there would be a significant reduction in development time- but as I'm sure you can understand, the $50.00 is not a trivial matter for me at this point. Add to this the fact that my little attemp to add in an improvement was not asked for anywhere is any spec, and knowing the users, it would be unnoticed and unappreciated.

This shouldn't indicate to anyone that I don't take a great deal of professional pride in my work. I always do, and I always try to deliver more than was asked for, better than imagined, and sooner than expected. It is surely not the case that everyone can always afford the luxury of being able to throw money at a problem or a project. With IT budgets being as universally tight as they are these days, MIS departments no longer give blanket approval to any purchase order that comes by.

It is not in any way my intent to engender ill will, or start a petty, non-productive little battle, but I sincerely hope that the next time you consider whether or not to chide someone for not adopting a particular solution or advice, think well that you may not know the other person's motivation for adopting, or not adopting, your recommendations. That said,
let me say that I do indeed appreciate help, and usually try to help when I can, as well. I thank you for your time.

Henry
