Be a warrior, Jim. Are you so thin-skinned that to be mocked by a vocal minority would stop you from doing the right thing? The right thing is to get a strong, credible reading on the VFP community's opinion about this, since there appears to be considerable support for a change. I doubt that many people who took the trouble to voice such a desire would consider it too great an effort to vote again, in a slightly reworded poll. After all, this reduces the likelihood that their previous vote was wasted.

My reference to Wiki and Usenet was not to suggest some profound significance to the new formulation, only to point out that there was never any effort made to promote an awareness of the poll outside of UT. I don't quite understand the logistics of Michel's polling mechanism, but with the poll on the home page, it seemed pretty accessible. All I'm suggesting is that people who are not UT regulars really should be given a fair chance to know about the poll and participate. In its previous form, the poll was not objectively worded enough to warrant such promotion. With the small revisions I've suggested, it would be unimpeachable.

>>I'm a little surprised at your reaction, Jim. We needn't get sucked into arguments about the first poll. Let's move on to a proper formulation of the question, which will absolutely eliminate any ambiguity. I happen to agree that the previous poll was flawed, but it's unnecessary to argue about that. Polls are cheap and easy, so let's start a new one, but this time do it right. Then, maybe people wouldn't be too embarassed to mention the poll on both Wiki and Usenet.

>>>Sorry, Mike, but I am one who would have preferred only a small adjustment to the last choices set provided.
>>>
>>>That change would have been to re-word the third option to be "Let the VFP Team decide whatever name it wants".
>>>
>>>To me this would have removed any possible confusion regarding the original (remove bolded in quoted above) meaning 'between the two prior choices' as opposed to 'any name they want'.
>>>
>>>I'm NOT at all sympathetic with those crying that the lack of option "I don't want any name change" flaws the entire survey. This is purely a red herring in my opinion. After all, given the entire past record for the VFP product, "Let the VFP Team decide" could be assumed to be saying 'leave it the same'.
>>>
>>>I wonder if "all" these people who see the survey as flawed will refrain from buying the next VFP product if MS names it anything but "Visual FoxPro 8 Professional Edition"????
>>>
>>>In summary, ask the bleeding hearts who say they care. I think it was OK as it was, my little 'complaint' only serving to try to clarify to a higher degree an already reasonably clear option.
>>>

>>>
>>>To me the complaining is tantamount to me refusing to answer a survey question at Burger King that asks "Do you frequently order the Whopper" as I sit there eating one because I always order mine without ketchup and they didn't ask THAT detail.
