Tom,

I just logged onto the UT after a week off and I was shocked to see the news. I never met Ed but his knowledge was clear for all to see. His contributions to the UT (as well as other forums) are now even more impressive given his health problems which most of us were not aware of.

Just prior to hearing the sad news I had been following a thread on another forum (experts-exchange.com) and I had just read a reply from Ed which he had posted at 2.43 PST on Fri 20th. Needless to say he was giving help and I am gutted this will be the last message I see from him.

Today there are many people in the IT industry but there are few special individuals who stand out among the crowd - Ed was in that category and the IT world is a sadder place without him.

Please express my sympathy to your family at this terrible time.
