I was agreeing with you on many points in this thread UNTIL NOW. Russ gave a very professional response. You responded in a tone that suggested that his response was not sincere. I'm dissappointed.

Personally I have no problem receiving emails from conference organizers because those emails are related to my profession and continuing education. I do, however, receive many actual spam emails trying to get me to refinance my home or go on a diet, etc which have nothing whatsoever to do with my professional or personal needs. Those I delete manually immediately and generally do not bother to 'opt out of' because many times replying is really just verifying your email address is a valid one.

>>I realize that there unscrupulous folks who simply use these means to verify email addresses -- we're not one of them. We derive absolutely no benefit from sending emails to those who don't want them and worse, as evidenced by this thread, it doesn't help our reputation either.
