No, databases are compatible between VFP 5, VFP 6, VFP 7 and VFP 8. You don't have to recompile the database to use it in a different version of VFP, except for VFP 3.

However, if you enable new features in the database or one of its table itself, like database events in VFP 7 or auto increment fields in VFP 8, then previous versions cannot open the table/database anymore.
