you and i obviously have different opinions on spam. i only consider something to be spam if it is something that has been sent blindly to whatever mailing list. how i can make a million dollars from home, save 20,000 dollars on my next vacation, clean up my credit, etc.

if it's something to do with my job, i don't know how anyone can consider it spam. as Marcia stated, if she hadn't received the email, she wouldn't even have known about the conference. Same for me. Seems that you and Eric are the only 2 who have been complaining during this thread.

Especially if you are an independent developer, I would think you would welcome the email. I don't think you would have enough available time to be investigating conference posibilities on your own.

I also find it extremely incredulous that the 2 of you are so incensed over 1 advertisement, that we have a thread that, as far as I can tell, rivals the reports of Ed R's death in length.

>>the point made that you are a fool. yes. the point has been made. this is the nature of the internet. sorry, but i don't consider an email from a company whose products i am definitely interested in spam.
>>
>
>I know you are responding to Eric, but let me butt in .... re-read your last sentence. While YOU may have been "definitely interested" it doesn't mean that I am!
>
>As for this being the nature of the Internet... this doesn't mean that folks don't have a right to be irritated. Otherwise, if you follow your logic, you can defend all sorts of things under the category "ah, that's just how it is.... everyone does it."
>
>And frankly, I think it's extremely rude to start your post with the first sentence that you used. Again, "the nature of the internet?" Maybe. Sadly.

>>if you are so upset by this, i recommend that you create an account at hotmail or yahoo that you give out to websites. only give your regular email to people you trust.
>>
>>>This thread was not started because of "one little email" and frankly has nothing to do with the quality of anyone's conference(s). And, frankly I don't give a damn if an unsolicited email pertains to my work or not. Additionally, you may not consider your time valuable enough to get irritated with managing a mailbox that has been trashed by someone selling the address, but I do.
>>>
>>>This thread has not generated a bunch of additional emails, it has generated a discussion among professionals on a forum who consider it worth while to take the time to make a point.
>>>
>>>I think the point has been made.

>>>>You know, after reading your email, the most amazing thing i think is that these guys are getting sooooo worked up that they are sending all these emails. because they got one little email in their inbox. and this email couldn't pertain anymore to their job, career. i get lots of spam. for me it's kind of easy to hit that delete button. then empty trash. works like a champ.

It wouldn't disqualify them automatically, but it would factor into the decision of which of the half dozen potential conferences I should spend money on this year.
