I did not get the email that prompted this thread so I can't comment on it. I doubt that is was a UT mailing list, because I have been on this from the beginning. I personally don't mind getting VFP related email as long as it is not some vendor constantly sending out stuff when I did not subscribe - and I don't know any that do that. I get emailings from DBI but I subscribed to it.

If someone gets an email that they did not solicit and they are a California resident, it is illegal. 26 states have laws against it. In California, there is an agency that is following up on selected spam. The penalties are severe enough to stop one spammer at a time. I don't know how effective this really is, but I am sure that if you do nothing, spam will only increase.

If you hate spam and want to do something, don't just delete it. In Outlook Express, highlight the email and press CTRL+F3 to put the entire email with headers in your clipboard. Then press CRTL+N to create a new email and then CTRL+V to paste the message in the body of your new email. Then send it to www.spamcop.com (you need to go there to get an ID), uce@ftc.gov and submit@spamarchive.org. I have my address book setup so I can send the email to sce; vce; uce - it is pretty easy and I 'feel' I am doing my part. I do this with every email for cheap mortgages, stock tips, enlarged penis, naked teenagers and all the other crap that is obviously illegal spam.
