Title:
Sort on DataGrid Columns.
I am in the process of learning VB.NET and so far enjoying myself. It takes time to make things work but when they do it works well. At this time I am working with the DataGrid. I am using the paging feature, which works well and is fast and now I want to sort on column headers. I have the basics down but I cannot fully understand how to write the code. If anyone has any suggestion how to write code to sort on a column header please point me in the right direction.
By the way I have two books on VB.NET – one from Wrox (Beginning ASP.NET using VB.NET) and another from Deitel (VB.NET for Experienced Programmers). I have the impression they were written with the Beta version of .NET or who knows? Little things like Event names that do not exist bother me.
What I find interesting so far is how little code is required to things like paging compared to ASP. I am near the end of a huge ASP project and giving ASP.NET a try to complete the final forms. I would like to show the value of this technology, as ASP is too limited in its abilities. By the way my project has 173 forms, which in my book is a good size chunk for any web application.
Once I crack the barrier of learning .NET I will feel much better. This technology involves many areas of learning. The fact there is no concise methodology to learn is a hindrance. With so many books on the market and so many pages of print that are incorrect, useless or meaningless to a new comer it is little wonder that .NET seems a daunting concept.
