Thank you for your kind response.

I have resolved the issue. The entire update statement was being kinda overlooked (actual reason is unknown). But all this started with trying to pad the clinic number with zeros on the left.

Now the update statement is within an if statement where the clinic number is treated as a character and then converted to numeric. The else part simply process the clinic number as a number itself.

It works fine now.
