Peter;
I am not entirely sure what you want. Being succinct (brief and to the point) helps in understanding anything. If what you want is a separate discussion category for technical discussions such as, “The Best Way to do a TableUpdate”, we would have recurring discussions about the same or similar topics. Thus an article approach might be better where we can define how and why we have done something.
Concerning message content, there are many who complain about this topic. Perhaps a simple check box next to Reply “Save” which states –“ Directly answers question” would do if everyone used it. That is a big “if”! Topics get off in different directions for many reasons. Some people do not agree with technical resolutions for what ever reason.
I am reminded of Union Meetings I have attended some years ago. The Business Manager would stand before the members and state the Proposition to be voted upon. Then members would ask for modifications to the original request and modifications to modifications. Finally, the Business Manager would state, “A vote yes is a vote to accept the amendment to the amendment to the proposition. A vote no is a vote to accept the proposition”. This is all perfectly clear – to someone!
What I am trying to say is that I think you might just end up with a complex and little understood end result. People will tend to interpret things and do as they please while the original intend is lost.
Have a Happy and Healthy New Year. Most of all - just keep smiling! :)
Tom
