GUIDs are Globally Unique Identifiers that are supposed to be unique across time and space, meaning that the odds of ever creating two GUIDs that are the same are extremely remote. When you create a COM component in VFP or any language, a GUID is created to uniquely identify the component.
When it comes to SQL Server, a GUID is a data type. Sergey pointed you to BOL for more information. When you move the SQL Server data to Fox cursors, the GUIDs will become Character fields.
