As a Los Angelene your preference is interesting and perfectly understandable.

As for me: I could easily attend training in the midwest USA if I felt like it.

But then neither of us is a typical Asian, German or Antipodean, so our anecdotal viewpoint is not relevant to how these people might perceive value.

You can be sure that attending training in the midwest is completely out of the question for many of these people, no matter how dearly they might love to attend. Even US conferences are out of the question for many/most of them. This point was raised by a fellow from Kuala Lumpur some months ago, as I recall.

My e-mail was intended to moot for discussion, not state a position.

What does it matter? Surely the topic is done to death.

"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
