You might consider creating a temporary cursor and using a grid instead of the editbox... along the lines of
create cursor c_CommandsDisplay (cCommand c(254) )
...
...
...
insert into c_CommandsDisplay values (lcCurrentComand)
Thisform.grdCommandDisplay.Refresh()
If you also turn gridlines, record mark off, make header 0 height, it will look fairly similar to your editbox.
Now you can cope with up to 2 billion commands in your display with no performance degradation as long as you have the hard drive space.

"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
