You'll save a lot round trips to server by validating on client and promotes a better user experience. Take web apps for example, isn't it much nicer when form fields are validated with client side script instead a trip to the server?

The problem is you have to re-compile app every time you change a business rule when validating on client. If this is a problem, do it on server.
