I agree with you, your install must be smarter then if you are using plain DBF but it worth it. DBF Corruption is too much of a pain and you know it will happend...

>1. I have NO problems while installing VFP runtime. I had several MINOR problems while installing MSDE.
>2. MDSE will not run on Win95. Running MSDE on Win98 is not always nobrainer matter.
>3. Instalation can be more difficult - you can not assume "clean" machine - it can have allready SQL Server installed it can be MSDE7 or MSDE2000 or SQL7 or SQL2000 or even SQL Srver 6.5. Server can be allready tuned speccialy to run another application. So instalation routine must be more smart than in case when you install only a few VFP dll. Try to install MSDE2000 on machine where is allready used SQL Server7 (please assume that installation of yor application can not in any case hurt working apps).

>>I found the solution a long time ago, i never use VFP tables anymore, for small apps i use MSDE. It's free !! i still don't understand why anybody would use VFP tables especially if you are starting a new project.

>>>I am writing a small gradebook app that will be distributed widely and needs to be almost bomb proof. In this case, could free tables be a better choice than tables in a DBC since I don't need long names or stored procedures? What is the downside?
